A Cherished Alentejo Family Home

Situated among acres of cork trees and olive groves in the Alentejo region, this villa's traditional Portuguese design and simple rural style are representative of the fundamental design principles of the region.

Built in 1939 and renovated with chic contemporary style, the home has been in the same family for generations. Preserving the clean lines, original structural characteristics, and ultimately the soul of the place, the distinctive bleached exteriors are offset by the rugged landscape.

The interiors are bright and modern with concrete floors, whitewashed walls and a light mix of contemporary and country style decor and furnishings.  

There are three en suite bedrooms, and a mezzanine room with loft bunks designed with kids in mind. The sleek fully equipped kitchen opens out to a large living room with a fireplace and windows facing the forest. The decks and outside lounge areas offer beautiful private views of the countryside and a large pool that welcomes you to dive in.  

ESTREMOZ

Located outside of the charming walled town of Estremoz whose Rossio Marquês de Pombal has long been the site of one of Portugal’s finest markets, the Alentejo region is rich in history and culture. 

Just a short drive from the fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Evora and Elvas, the area is an important frontier district with remnants of both Moorish and late 16th-century battlements and fortifications. Be sure to check out the spectacular Amoreira aqueduct and the castle. There are many other towns nearby worth a visit including Arraiolos, Monsaraz, Vila Viçosa.

Badajoz, in neighboring Spain offers more UNESCO sites, natural treasures, and historic citadels and castles. Lisbon is a 90-minute drive to the west.
